We try to deal mainly with individuals and families. This way we know we
can reach the really poor, but we have supported the following communal
projects recently:-
The building of 20 houses for AVEGA (an association of widows of the
Genocide of 1994).
The building and stocking of a piggery at Mwezi (Cyangugu) under the
supervision of their parish priest, to help mainly victims of Aids in
that area.
Re-housing 23 families at Nkanka who had been living in appalling
conditions.
Providing roofing sheets (metal) and drinking water tanks as
necessary.
Ensuring that the poorer students at a Secondary School at Mibirizi
received a free or subsidised meal at mid-day. Likewise, school uniforms,
scholastic materials and transport costs.
Nutritional Centre at Kabuga where Rwandan women will learn
how to feed their families properly from local produce.
Drinking water tanks at a Sisters' property for the homeless.
Provision of a minibus to replace one which was damaged
beyond repair in an accident. This minibus is used to transport
people around the countryside and raises revenue which finances
its running costs.
Provision of 10 new houses for the Rwandan national widows'
support organisation (AVEGA) in addition to those mentioned
above.
Three of our Trustees, at their own cost, visited these and
other projects in June 2007.
