- We aim to have the best possible ratio of overheads to
money sent. Last year (2007) our overheads amounted to a mere 8.04% of
the total money sent to Rwanda.
- We aim to reach the very lowest levels of poverty by
using Rwandan helpers to identify them. Hence we have school
Heads, parish priests, Aids workers, Health Centre Directors and the like on our committees in Rwanda. They know our aims and
have agreed to abide by them. No members of our committees or
their families can benefit from the money we send.
- We aim to help only in the areas of health, education, food and shelter. In the case of larger projects, we prefer
those which have some local input, and which are self-sustaining.
(e.g. a piggery: we fund building and stocking: Rwandans grow food
for pigs: look after pigs: reap benefits and share them: buy more
pigs.)
- We aim to be independent of government bodies
and politicians, and to deal with no-one above the level of village
heads, school and health centre directors, parish priests etc. We never enquire whether someone is Hutu or Tutsi.
